By trawling through the web using Google or Yahoo for searching out model aircraft, you are soon overwhelmed with the number of replica airplane suppliers. However, the airplane models we sell are an investment. Each one is meticulously carved to exacting standards and detail before being finished by hand with enamel paint – up to 35 coats of paint in some cases.
Mark Shore and Iestyn Armstrong-Smith are brothers-in-law and partners in Anglo American Models. They share a passion for aircraft and in fact all things flying. Maybe it is that both were born in the 1960s when there was still an innocence in the world about technology and aircraft engineering was viewed with awe, which no doubt inspired their interest. Flying was still the province of the wealthy in those days and was not taken for granted as it is today. Moreover, the Second World War had not been over that long and was still fresh in the memory of many adults at the time.
Stories of airplanes, in particular the Spitfire, Hurricane and the Mosquito fighter airplanes and the Lancaster and Wellington bombers, held the interest of young lads. Epic films such as The Battle of Britain, The Dambusters, Aces High and so on were great favourites of the time. Also, Mark's father served his national service as a technician for a Vampire jet squadron and Iestyn's father had been a radio operator in the Second World War as part of a spotter crew flying in a Dakota in the Burma campaign.
As children, aircraft were often the toy of choice and when reaching teenhood building Airfix, Revell and Tamiya models occupied a lot of time. These plastic models later made way for beautifully carved and painted collectable models made from wood and decorated by hand in enamel paint.
Today, this interest has grown into a new venture – Anglo American Models. This is our website or on-line retail portal for people to share in our passion for high quality, museum standard models. Mark has spent much time and effort researching supplies of best quality, high value models and it is these we present to you on this website.
